Facilities Management is seeking a Facilities Mechanic III (with Pipefitter focus). Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the repairing, servicing, and maintaining of buildings and electrical, mechanical and plumbing equipment with an emphasis on plumbing/pipefitting work. Expect position to have up to 30% effort toward pipefitting responsibilities, and remainder to mechanical responsibilities.
Duties to Include:
Inspects and maintains steam distribution piping and control equipment, radiators, convectors, traps, valves, pumps, and related piping and equipment.
Installs and repairs sinks, commodes, showers, water heaters and garbage disposals. Maintains sanitary and storm sewer systems.
Performs preventive maintenance on motors, pumps, and other equipment, and maintains appropriate records.
Inspects, maintains, and makes operating repairs on electrical equipment and wiring, heating, air conditioning, and ventilating equipment, etc.
Performs preventive maintenance and emergency repair work.
Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, and equipment specifications.
Performs work in related crafts areas as assigned.
Assists in directing the work of others.
Position Location: Oakdale Campus
Shift: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, overtime as required
About Facilities Management:
Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 500 employees who work behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, serving the University of Iowa as stewards for our downtown Iowa City campus and Oakdale campus in Coralville. FM staff coordinate campus master planning, manage design and construction, and maintain and clean the buildings and grounds.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
Must possess a basic knowledge of plumbing, electricity, maintenance of steam and mechanical equipment; and
Must have four years of work experience in the listed crafts, including apprenticeship or technical training. At least two years of that experience must be in the same craft.
Valid driver's license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.
Experience with inspecting and maintaining steam distribution piping and control equipment, radiators, convectors, traps, valves, pumps, and related piping and equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Help snow crew in Coralville during off hours for snow events.
Experience performing preventative and predictive maintenance of building systems equipment.
Ability to use equipment and tools effectively to perform essential job functions.
Demonstrate basic computer skills.
Ability to work with and around a diverse culture.
Ability to move for extended periods of time.
Good customer interaction skills.
Ability to work in a team setting.
